The Kwara State Police Command says it has deployed about 1,500 officers comprising of regular police and mobile units to maintain law and order in this Saturdays bye-election to fill the vacant Irepodun / Isin/ Oke-Ero/ Ekiti Federal legislative seat.
The spokesperson of the command DSP Ajayi Okasanmi disclosed this while speaking with our correspondent ilorin.
While giving the assurances of the commissioner of Police Fafowora that the command is ready to ensure the election goes on smoothly without any break down of law and order, he said that every polling unit in the area would be protected by eight policemen in order to protect the electorate during and after voting.
Okasanmi also warned would be trouble makers to stay away from the elections as the command will decisively with anyone caught trying to destabilize the electoral process saying only those with the PVC as announced by INEC are expected at the polling units.
“Only voters with PVC are expected by law to be at the polling units and also expected to conduct themselves in an orderly manner.
“The job of the police is to supervise and ensure the process goes on smoothly, we will only come in if voters are intimidated, harassed or any attempt by anyone of group to distrupts the process and the command will deal with such people decisively” he said.
