More facts have emerged as to the actual cause of frosty relationship between the Executive Chairman of Ekiti local government area of Kwara State, Com. Yinka Dallas and the legislative arm of the council led by Hon. Adeniyi Kayode, this medium can exclusively report.
It would be recalled the legislative arm of the council had risen up from it’s sitting on Wednesday, 17th October announcing the indefinite suspension of the council’s executive Chairman over allegation of “financial mismanagement and lack of transparency “
Independent check by this medium however unraveled the true reason of the frosty relationship between both arms of the local government which bothers on money.
It was discovered that since the coming onboard of the council in 2017, the councillors have find it hard meeting their basic responsibilities, owing to the epileptic remuneration which is as a result of paucity of funds and salary backlog coupled with the huge debt inherited from the previous administration.
The source said “All attempts to make the executive Chairman, Yinka Dallas to reason why the councillors must be given money in other for them to meet basic domestic and constituency needs fell on deaf ears.
” The Speaker on behalf of his colleagues approached the Chairman demanding he help alleviate the sufferings of the councillors by assessing a #15m loan with the council as the guarantor and deductible from the council’s monthly allocation.
“This suggestion was rebuffed by the Chairman on the guise of the overbearing influence of present loans the LG is servicing, a loan which he alleges is a major clog in the wheel of progress of the council.
” The Chairman’s response didn’t go down well with the Speaker and he felt the was trying not to see reasons and feel for him and his colleagues while he lives large” he added.
However, according to one of the councillors who crave anonymity for fear of victimisation, he bemoaned the situation he and his colleagues have found themselves, stressing that they “find it hard to eat two times daily, we are not able to fulfil their family responsibilities neither are we able to give anything in return to our constituents who voted us in with high hopes, almost 14months down the line” he lamented.
It was also gathered when elders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti LG got wind of the frosty relationship, they swung into action, in the interest of protecting the image of the LG and not allowing the crisis to rob off negatively on the State government and the Saraki political family.
It was however gathered a peace meeting was called by the elders and the differences ironed out, with a mandate given to both parties to work harmoniously, while the Council Chairman was also advised to look into the plight of councillors towards ensuring all parties are empowered to carry out its responsibilities.
Reacting to the allegation in an exclusive chat with this medium, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Adeniyi Kayode while debunking the allegation said “The allegation that we requested the Chairman to secure loan is baseless and untrue. It is the executive that will bring its budget proposal to us and not us taking our demands to the executive.
“The major bone of contention is the uneven spread of dividends of Democracy across the ten wards of the local government. We heard that #5m was given to the local government released by the State government aimed at prosecuting a project in Isapa the home town of the Chairman (Film House) without the approval of the legislative arm of the council.
“We challenged him requesting the #5m should be spread to each ward, and not carrying the legislative arm along and he apologised and promise he’ll henceforth carry us all along in the scheme of things.
” Over #4m was released for project in the LG in September and we waited for 2 weeks for the Chairman to call the legislature for briefing on the receipt of the money, he refused to call us on the receipt and how it would be utilized. We’re now clamouring that the money must be evenly spread across all the wards.
Speaking with this medium however, Com. Yinka Dallas declined comment adding that the matter have been amicably settled in a family way.
He said “We have settled the differences in a family way and I can assure you, the matter is dead for good” he stressed.
