President Muhammadu Buhari has summoned stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State to an emergency meeting in Abuja, This medium has gathered.
The meeting, which is expected to hold today at the Presidential Villa, at about 2:30pm this afternoon, is being convened as a fall out of the primaries of the party, which has led some leaders to be disgruntled.
This medium gathered last night that those invited to the meeting include the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who is also the state party leader, governorship aspirants and some members of the state executive of the party.
It was learnt that the meeting was being organised to resolve the logjam and the crisis that characterised the outcome of the governorship primary election of which some of the aspirants had petitioned the National Working Committee of the party where they catalogued their grievances.
This came after the APC announced Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as the gubernatorial flag-bearer in the state ahead of the 2019 general elections.
While most of the governorship aspirants had accepted the outcome of the primaries and resolved to work with the governorship candidate of the party, one of them and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem and Alh. Shuiab Abdullahi Yaman, are still said to be aggrieved.
Their camp believed they won the primary election but the party decided to concede the ticket to Abdulrazaq.
This medium was reliably informed last night that all the governorship aspirants are expected to attend the meeting except one of them, Alhaji Hakeem Lawal, who is outside the country.
A party source stated that those invited to the meeting were already arriving in Abuja.
An APC chieftain, who spoke confidentialy to This medium said President Buhari would use the meeting to persuade the aggrieved aspirants to sheathe their swords and work collectively for the victory of the party at the polls.
The Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of the APC in the state, Mr Kayode Oyin-Zubair, confirmed the scheduled meeting with the President in a telephone interview with This medium last night.
He stated that the meeting was convened to iron out grey areas and clear the dust generated over the outcome of the party primaries in the state.
Oyin-Zubair confirmed further that the governorship aspirants and others stakeholders of the party would be at the meeting.
“As a father of the party, he (Muhammadu Buhari) wants to bring all together, appeal to them and foster progress and unity among them”, he said.
When inquired whether Professor Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem would attend the meeting, he responded thus “He will attend the meeting. When they get to the meeting, he would vent his anger and grievances and from there, we hope that all is going to be well”
