The choice of the Peoples Democratic Party’s House of Assembly candidate in Ekiti State constituency of Kwara State may have divided the traditional institutions from the local government if findings by this medium is anything to go by.
While the Owalobo of Obo-ile, Oba Olusegun Adebayo affirmed that Alh. Tajudeen Lawal is a bonafide son of Ekiti Kwara from Opin kingdom, stressing that the candidate is a popular and well accepted son of Ekiti LG, Opin Kingdom traditional council insist he’s not a Kwaran.
The revered Oba made this assertion in a telephone interview with newsmen, insisting that the candidate is a Prince of Opin and not Ila Orangun in Osun State as rumoured by his “political detractors”.
Oba Adebayo said, “They are liers, what the Nigeria Constitution says is once you stay in a certain place for 10 years, then you are eligible to contest there. And aside from that Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal was born and breed in Kwara, even in Opin. Whoever is saying that, please disregard such information. I am a royal father, I am from Ekiti local government and majority of us traditional rulers in Ekiti supports the candidature of Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal.
He further emphasised, “He has been doing empowerment there they received it, then they didn’t say he is not from Kwara. Some people are using there influence to disrupt the peaceful existence of Ekiti local government and we will not allow such.
“From the conventional rotational system, the next is Opin and they have been protesting for it, because they are the only one that had not occupy the sit before and now, they have zoned it to Opin ward. And now the second point that favoured him is that the Muslim communities have been complaining that they have not occupy the position for a longtime and that they don’t use to consider them for any elective position. So we have to give him the mandate. He has been visiting the Muslim, Christain and even most of the Opin Obas and they prayed for him. Most of these Obas have endorsed his candidature. Alhaji Lawal is a popular candidate” He stressed.
Speaking in the same vein, the embattled candiate Alhaji Lawal Tajudeen, affirmed that he is a prince from Araromi Opin, he said ” I am the grandson of the late Olopin of Opin Kingdom, Oba Lawal Anisuloogun who is also eligible to the stool of Olu of Araromi Opin and also the stool of Olopin of Opin kingdom.
“Obas that are behind this campaign of columny have never seen anything good in the Saraki leadership, one of them is the brother of Barr. Rotimi Jacobs, a visible hater of leader, so this effort is to get at the structure by using me to blackmail the party, so as to field an unpopular candidate.
” I am not disturbed by their latest antics, we’ve gone past this stage of character assassination and mudslinging for pecuniary gains in the politics of Ekiti-Kwara, what is of utmost importance to me is how to drag dividends of democracy to my people once I get to the House, God’s willing ” he promised.
However, in clear contrast to the assertiom of the candidate and Owalobo, according to the letter dated 10th October 2018 signed by 9 kings of Opin Kingdom namely, Owaatun of Otun-Opin, Oba Moses Adeyemi, Alara of Isare-Opin, Alaaya of Laye-Opin, Olowa of Owaodo-Opin, Edemorun of Idemorun-Opin, Alaare of Aare-Opin, Asolo of Isolo-Opin, Oba Are Sunday Rapheal and Elepe of Epe-Opin, Oba J.B Ayeni to make up the Opin Kingdom council of Obas which was addressed to the leader of the party in the State, Dr. Bukola Saraki and copied PDP Chairman Alh. Kola Shittu and the Kwara South Senatorial Chairman of the party, insisted the selected candidate isn’t an indigene of the State.
A copy of the letter which was exclusively obtained by this medium reads “We entire Obas in Opin land, comprising the 10 communities in Opin ward thank his Excellency, Dr. Bukola Saraki for doing the right thing by zoning the House of Assembly seat to Opin ward, this is historic as nobody from Opin has ever had the opportunity of being at the House of Assembly.
“However, we wish to kick against the choice of Taju Lawal, as it will affect the chances of the Saraki dynasty at the polls and in the same light affect the chances of Opin son from representing the LG at the State House of Assembly.
” Taju Lawal is not a son of Opin kingdom, he’s an indigene of Ila-Orangun in Osun State, we implore you sir retain the ticket in Opin by picking one of our qualified sons.
“The said Lawal had been fueling crisis between various Opin communities especially Isolo and Aramomi, some of which led to litigation and are presently before the High Court and Court of Appeal.
