More facts have continued to emerge on what actually transpired at the reconciliatory meeting between all gubernatorial aspirants, Kwara APC stakeholders and President Muhammadu Buhari, which is a far cry from the picture painted through a release signed at the end of the meeting by Presidential spokesman, Femi Adeshina, Fresh Insight can authoritatively report.
According to the release by Femi Adeshina, the President charged the all stakeholders to put the primaries behind them and work collectively for the interest of Kwarans and the Nation at large, stressing that “Kwarans are synonymous with loyalty and dedication to group and larger goal over and above personal, parochial and selfish interest.
It reads “The late Major General Tunde Idiagbon was a very rare example of what loyalty to fatherland and to a superior should be. Tunde was strong, loyal and extremely committed to the cause of positively changing the narrative about Nigeria, which the administration set out to do at that time,”
President Buhari further enjoined Nigerians to remain faithful and loyal to the country in all their dealings. “You don’t have to be in uniform to be loyal. What I said long ago in 1984 is still valid today. We have no other country but Nigeria. Others who feel they have another country may choose to go. We will stay here and salvage it together,” he said.
President Buhari thanked the APC stakeholders for the position they have taken to continue to support the party regardless of the outcome of the primaries and assured them that, with the unity displayed so far, APC will form the government in Kwara State.
However, impecabble multiple sources at the meeting painted a less cordial and conciliatory meeting yesterday, stressing that ” the meeting was put together by the minister just to prove to Buhari he’s in charge of Kwara and not a meeting called to iron out grey areas and assuage the feelings of party stakeholders who felt aggrieved with the primary exercise.
Speaking further, the source said “The meeting commenced at exactly 3:15pm when the President walked in, he exchanged pleasantries with the aspirants and some stakeholders who were also part of the meeting.
” The Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adeshina introduced the gathering and handed over to the leader of the party in Kwara State, who also doubles as Minister for Information and Communication, Hon. Lai Muh’d, he in-turn sort the permission of the President to accord the privilege of self introduction to all aspirants.
“Aspirant’s seat were tagged and Femi Adeshina handed over a prepared Speech to Buhari to read, a move which he rebuffed and chose to address the gathering off hand.
” President Buhari addressed the gathering for 5 minutes where he only talked about late Gen. Idiagbon, sacrifice and the reason to work harmoniously without making mention of the flawed primaries.
“It was expected some of the aspirants and party stakeholders would be given an opportunity of pouring out their minds and express their grievances to the President. However Hon. Lai prevented the opportunity of anybody talking as the meeting came to an abrupt end with photo shoots” the source stressed.
In the same vein, all the aspirants and stakeholders left for the Minister’s Office with the exception of the party’s flagbearer Alh. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who came to the villa and left in the same car with Alh. Dele Belgore and Mallam Saliu Mustapha (both Guber aspirants).
A bus was provided which conveyed aspirants and some stakeholders to the villa and back to the ministry where another round of meeting was fixed.
According to a source who was onboard the bus, he said “Immediately the meeting ended and all stakeholders came out, we noticed most of the attendees weren’t happy with the entire arrangement, bemoaning why they’ll all travel from across the globe only to be part of a 5minutes meeting that failed to attend the issues.
” Two of the gubernatorial aspirants, Alh. Yahyah Gobir, Alh. Abdullahi Shuaib Yaman who were visibly enraged openly expressed disappointment with the whole exercise especially with the way and manner the way and manner Hon. Lai arranged the said meeting. Williams Adeleye (Lai’s PA) was in the bus and he heard the open lamentations like all other occupants of the bus.
“When we arrived the minister’s office, we were stood up for more than one hour, with Hon. Lai, Williams Adeleye and the State Chairman of the Party, Hon. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa were engaged in a meeting.
” Alh. Lai who was visibly happy, came out with Williams and BOB after almost an hour to appreciate everybody for fishing time to attend the meeting, while also pleading with them to please exercise understanding with the President, knowing that the President would have loved to have a more robust interactive session with the attendees, but his tight schedule wouldn’t allow ” the source confirmed.
